Is it right for you?
Root canal treatment is often recommended for:
- Severe or lingering toothache
- Pain on biting or chewing
- Swelling or a pimple on the gum
- Sensitivity to hot or cold that doesn’t fade
What to expect
Diagnosis
Examination and X-ray to confirm the tooth can be saved.
Cleaning
Infected pulp removed and canals disinfected under local anaesthesia.
Sealing
Canals filled and sealed to keep bacteria out.
Protection
A crown is usually advised, especially for back teeth.
Aftercare
Mild tenderness for a few days is normal. Avoid chewing hard food on the tooth until its final crown is fitted.
Common questions
Is root canal treatment painful?
You’re numb throughout, and most people say it feels like a filling. The pain people fear usually comes from the infection, not the treatment.
Can it really be done in one visit?
Often, yes. Teeth with severe infection may need a second visit, and Dr Abhay will tell you beforehand.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
Back teeth usually do, because a treated tooth can become brittle over time.
